What is PR?
According to the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, PR is 'about reputation - the result of what you do, what you say and what others say about you'.
At Mosaic Publicity, our job is to ensure that our clients have a positive and proactive relationship with the public, using all forms of media as the conduit to get their 'key messages' across. We write carefully targeted press releases, liaising with journalists in both print and broadcast media, and we then follow up the coverage received. We also handle media enquiries on behalf of clients, acting as their press office on a day to day basis.
Public Relations also involves liaising directly with the public and may involve, for example, event management or lobbying. And if things go wrong - Mosaic Publicity manages a client's reputation, to ensure that any damage is limited. As a Media Training agency, we can ensure that clients have the necessary skills to deal with tough questions.
We also handle other aspects of a client's publicity requirements, liaising with photographers, designers and printers, to ensure that brochures, letterheads, logos, newsletters and so on are carefully crafted.
Is PR the same as marketing?
PR is one element of marketing, which also includes other activities such as advertising, direct mail, exhibitions, events, emails, signage, stationery and websites, to name a few of the main ones.
Can I do my own PR?
Yes - but here's an interesting fact: 9 out of 10 press releases don't get used by the media because they are either badly written, irrelevant, not news, targeted at the wrong people or the wrong publication, miss the deadline or aren't accompanied by a decent photo.
Can I learn to do my own PR?
Yes - and Mosaic Publicity can help. We run a variety of media training courses, ranging from Press Release writing workshops to radio and TV skills days which are tailored to the needs of an individual company.
Why should I use a PR agency such as Mosaic Publicity?
Our team is made up of highly skilled individuals from journalism and PR backgrounds, who understand what the media are looking for. We know what makes news, what will appeal to a news editor, and we can appreciate the difference between editorial, advertorial (i.e. paid editorial) and an advert. We have excellent contacts with the media because we are dealing with our contacts day in, day out. Plus we have the Mediadisk database of every single media contact in the UK, both news outlets and individuals, which is updated daily over the Internet. We work with the best designers, printers, photographers and camera operators, who have been carefully chosen to ensure we deliver the best products and services available.
