Celebrating the Men of Mosaic on International Men’s Day

Today, on International Men’s Day, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the brilliant men who help shape Mosaic – The Conscience Marketing Agency – through their creativity, strategic thinking and values.

This year’s theme, ‘Celebrating Men and Boys’, encourages us to reflect on the positive contributions men make in our families, communities, and businesses.

It also invites us to open up conversations around masculinity, wellbeing, and the challenges many men still face.

We asked the men in our team three simple but powerful questions. Their responses offer insight, honesty, and a refreshing take on what it means to be a man in today’s workplace.

  1. One male stereotype you’ve challenged in your career or personal life:

“That men are less in touch with their emotions and aren’t comfortable with talking about their mental health. None of us are infinitely resilient and do need space to feel and express emotions. One of things I like about working at Mosaic is that company culture recognises the importance of supporting mental health for everyone, regardless of gender.” Connor

  1. Your advice to younger men entering the marketing/PR industry:

“Be your own person; see all women as colleagues and equals (which I am sure you do these days, it’s not the 80’s any more); and don’t fall for the ‘lad’ stereotypes – it’s not healthy or funny. Oh, and (especially in marketing) be comfortable being surrounded by women who are really good at their job – you can learn from them.” Doug

  2. What you do to have a healthy work-life balance (even if you can’t do it all the time!):

“My outlet is cooking, not just for myself and my wife Karen, but also for others – friends and neighbours. The kitchen is my sanctuary; I find it very relaxing to experiment with recipes while listening to the Archers. Everyone needs a way to let off steam, and this is my way to relax after a full-on week.” Kevin

Masculinity has become a topic of intense debate in recent years. From social media soundbites to cultural commentary, we’re often presented with conflicting narratives about what it means to ‘be a man’. But masculinity isn’t a fixed identity, it’s shaped by experience, emotion, and context.

At Mosaic, we believe there’s strength in diversity. People, regardless of gender, express themselves in different ways, and that’s what makes our teams, our industry, and our society richer.

On International Men’s Day, we celebrate those differences and encourage respectful, empathetic conversations that challenge outdated norms.

International Men’s Day is also a call to action. In the UK, men account for three out of four suicides, and one in five men don’t live to see 65. These are sobering statistics and they highlight the urgent need for better support systems, open dialogue, and inclusive workplaces.

Our CEO Karen Ainley says: “According to Mind, only 36% of men feel comfortable talking about their mental health at work, so there is still work to be done in the business world.

“At Mosaic, we’re committed to creating a culture where everyone, regardless of gender, feels safe, supported, and empowered to be themselves.

“As a B Corp, we take pride in upholding standards that prioritise wellbeing, equity, and fair work. These values are embedded in our Conscience Marketing® approach too, which puts people, purpose and impact at the heart of marketing. It’s the right thing to do for people and business.”

Mosaic’s B Corp certification means we uphold high standards of fair work, employee wellbeing, and inclusive culture. That means creating space for conversations like this, not just today, but every day.

According to B Lab’s new standards, businesses must demonstrate how they support staff across areas like mental health, flexibility, and equity and we’re proud to do our part.

The marketing and PR industry has long been shaped by fast-paced environments and high expectations. But at Mosaic, we believe that success doesn’t have to come at the cost of wellbeing. We’re proud to foster a culture where everyone can:

  • Speak openly about mental health
  • Work flexibly to take time for family
  • Lead with empathy and collaboration

Whether it’s challenging stereotypes, mentoring the next generation, or simply showing up as their authentic selves, the men of Mosaic are helping redefine what leadership and creativity look like.

And it’s not just our team we’re celebrating. Many of the men we work with – from leaders to team members – are driving meaningful progress in their own industries. They’re leading with purpose, challenging convention, and building businesses that reflect the values we share.

We’re proud to support them, collaborate with them, and learn from them.

So to our male colleagues and male clients, let’s keep the conversation going.
