How Naked Wines is becoming more sustainable

We’re fortunate to work with many organisations across the drinks industry, including Naked Wines, where we’ve provided training in making smartphone videos.
It’s a fantastic company, built on the simple premise of supporting the world’s best independent winemakers and distributing their wine directly to the consumers (known as Angels).
Sustainable Innovations at Naked Wines
Like many organisations these days they’re keen to operate as sustainably as possible and have been innovating in a variety of ways, from reducing the weight of their glass bottles, and removing the plastic and tin covering (capsule) on some of the bottles, to using recycled and recyclable packaging and reducing the impact of their shipping and distribution methods.
“The glass bottle makes up a significant portion of the carbon footprint of a bottle of wine so we’ve taken direct action to reduce the weight of millions of bottles, reducing emissions throughout the supply chain,” said Luke Landers, Naked Wine’s Senior Sustainability Manager.
“We’re not just taking action on packaging – we’re passionate about reducing our impact on people and the planet in any way we can. Through continuing to have close working relationships with independent winemakers we believe we can positively disrupt the wine industry for the benefit of customers, winemakers and our people”.
Introducing the Green Grape Logo
Naked Wines has recently launched its Green Grape logo for wines that ‘go above and beyond to be kinder to our planet’. It’s a logo that serves a multitude of purposes – for customers it provides a green stamp of approval where they can be assured the product has been produced in a way that will reduce its impact. For winemakers it helps set a benchmark of encouraged behaviours whilst also celebrating those who have already put in the hard work to become more sustainable.
Embracing Video Marketing with Mosaic’s Training
One of the key aspects of Mosaic’s smartphone video production training programme was to explore how Naked Wines can create and use more video in its day-to-day marketing and communications to promote what the company, and its wine makers, are doing.
“It’s really important that we showcase the efforts that we’re making in reducing our carbon footprint and our impact on the planet,” added Luke. “Mosaic’s training, led by CEO Karen who is a former BBC TV reporter, has given us plenty of tips and techniques to share what we’re doing and we’re excited now to put this into practise.”
