In April, Mosaic gave a donation of £200 to the charity, Aching Arms, which was chosen by Senior PR and Communications Manager, Chad Nugent.
New parent Chad nominated Aching Arms because it supports those who have suffered the loss of a child either during pregnancy, at birth or soon after – something which he and his wife experienced.
The charity sends a comfort bear with a personalised name tag following a request or a donation request, as a gift from one bereaved family to another, to let people know they are not alone during their time of loss.
Commenting on his choice of charity, Chad said: “Before falling pregnant with our daughter, my wife Helen suffered a miscarriage which left us both feeling confused and sad.
“While seeking for a way to channel her feelings, Helen found Aching Arms and we now have a teddy bear that sits proudly in our living room at home as a reminder of the baby we lost. Our donation will also ensure that another family can have the same in their home.
“Miscarriage shouldn’t be taboo. By talking about our experience with family and friends we discovered others have been through similar things. It helps to know you are not alone.”
Support for bereaved parents
As well as giving its bears following a request, the charity also donates them to hospitals and hospices, for midwives and nurses to offer to bereaved parents in their care. The bears are also sent to support groups and funeral directors.
Aching Arms also provides a support service called Supporting Arms, which is run by bereaved parents to give others the opportunity to talk to someone who understands their terrible loss.
Aching Arms also provides training to health professionals, employers and human resource staff to give them a better appreciation of just how life-changing and long-term the loss of a baby can be.
