History in the making

Britain’s oldest recorded town and former Roman capital, Colchester, is to play host to TV historian Adam Hart-Davis, who is presenting this year’s Colchester Lecture.

The civic event, now in its 29th year, is organised annually by Mosaic Publicity’s events management team, as part of the company’s commitment to giving something back to the local community.

Mr Hart-Davis will talk about his extraordinary career as a photographer, writer and broadcaster best known for revealing what the Romans, Victorians, Tudors & Stuarts, Greeks, Egyptians, and others did for us.

The Lecture is being held at the Mercury Theatre at 6.30pm on Thursday June 25th (tickets are priced at £10 (concessions £9) and are available from the Mercury Theatre on 01206 573948, or via www.mercurytheatre.co.uk.

The event has been sponsored by PKF Accountants and Business Advisers, NatWest, Birkett Long and Colchester Institute, as well as Mosaic Publicity who can be contacted on (01206) 548100, www.mosaicpublicity.co.uk, for details of PR, design, web and media training services.

Mosaic branches out at local schools for a greener tomorrow

Colchester-based PR agency Mosaic Publicity has launched its new green business credentials by planting two trees on the playing fields of local schools to help off-set the award-winning agency’s carbon footprint.

Colchester Council’s tree experts joined Mosaic’s eco team at Home Farm School and at Lexden Primary School where they planted chestnut and oak trees, bought and supplied by Mosaic Publicity, with the help of dozens of pupils in the schools.

Gemma Rawlinson, who is responsible for the company’s eco-drive said: “It’s really important for us to plant trees to offset some of our carbon emissions and we are sure that local schools are the ideal locations for our young trees. These will provide students with something which both helps the environment and is beautiful to look at throughout the school year.

“Mosaic is working hard to reduce it’s impact on the environment, including the introduction of a recycling system, changing stationery over to eco-friendly products and encouraging staff to car-share, walk or cycle to work.

“We hope that we lead by example and give other local companies inspiration to become greener and contribute to improving the Colchester borough and surrounding areas.”

The trees, planted early March so they would grow and thrive in the spring and summer months, were gratefully received by both schools.

Mo Oliver, Head teacher at Home Farm School said:  “Home Farm is an accredited eco-school and all of our pupils are very aware of climate change and the need to care for the environment.

“We are very pleased to have been donated an oak tree from Mosaic Publicity, the children are looking forward to watering it in the summer and watching it grow.”

Expert series: First impressions count

How often have you looked at a company’s website and thought how awful, I’m not doing business with them? They might have everything you want and more but if they can’t present themselves well to you, how do you know they are going to deliver what you want in the best way possible?

Now take a look at your own website and ask yourself the same question. What would companies make of your organisation from first impressions?

Mosaic Publicity recognises that the first page of a website is often the first port of call and can advise organisations on how to put themselves across in the most effective way possible.

At the same time, can prospective clients find your products and services using the main search engines? If not, you could be missing a wealth of opportunities - all vitally important during the current economic downturn.

How are you presenting yourselves through PR and advertising, photography, pitch documentation and even networking? Those first few seconds when you enter a room can make all the difference to whether you win or lose that all-important contract.
